BELIEF
St.
John’s Mercy is a Catholic health care corporation. The Sisters
of Mercy of the Americas, the religious sponsors of the Sisters of Mercy Health
System and its subsidiary, St. John’s Mercy believe that health care services
are rooted in the mission of Jesus and are a vital and integral part of the
Church’s healing mission.
In keeping with this core belief, the medical staff, employees
and volunteers of St. John’s Mercy support and commit to the following beliefs
as a basis for decision-making and service provision:
- We exist to respond to the health needs of individuals and families in our
communities to the fullest extent that human and material resources will allow.
- We are called as advocate and provider, where possible, to assist the materially
poor and others in need of obtaining health services.
- We recognize that every person is created in God’s image and enjoys special
dignity and equal worth. Recognition of this dignity demands that acceptance,
compassion, and respect characterizes relationships among those who serve
and with those served.
- We reflect the excellence of professional standards and sound business practice
and evidence personalized care and warm hospitality in the quality and breadth
of service.
- We promote networking among care providers with a similar mission and pursue
this in ways that will strengthen our collective service response.
- We give public testimony to the reality of God, the healing redemptive presence
of Christ and respect for human life. We uphold that service to the sick and
dying is an opportunity for all involved to come to a deeper understanding
of the true meaning and gift of life.
MISSION
Rooted in Jesus’ healing mission, and faithful to the Sisters of Mercy
ministry tradition marked by justice, service, excellence, stewardship and
respect for the dignity of each person, St. John's Mercy Health Care implements
and advocates for innovative health and social services to improve the health
and quality of life of individuals and families in the community, with particular
concern for people who are underserved and poor. In so doing, we make a difference
by touching the lives of those we serve with compassion and exceptional Mercy
Service.
