MEDICAL CARE
Your doctor has admitted
you to St. John’s Mercy because
your condition warrants the need for resources provided by our hospital.
St. John’s Mercy provides sophisticated technology and highly skilled
medical professionals to ensure that you receive quality medical care.
Medical Staff
The physician and those who have been asked to participate in your care are
responsible for directing your care while you are here. If you have questions
about your illness, it is important that you talk with your physician or
nurse.
Nursing Staff
You will receive 24-hour nursing care from a team of registered nurses, licensed
practical nurses and patient care associates. A nurse manager is responsible
for directing and coordinating nursing care on your floor. Please contact
your nurse or the nurse manager if you have questions or concerns.
Pastoral Care
St. John’s Mercy believes that total patient care demands attention to
the spiritual, as well as the physical and emotional needs of each patient.
Members of the Pastoral Services staff are available to assist you, whatever
your religious affiliation. The department consists of Roman Catholic and Protestant
chaplains who have specialized training for hospital ministry. Others who help
are lay men and women who have special training. Your priest, minister or rabbi
is always welcome to visit you while you are here. Pastoral Care can be reached
by calling 636-239-8240.
Diagnostic Services
Complete diagnostic services are available at St. John’s Mercy Hospital.
The Cardiac Catheterization Lab provides diagnostic cardiac evaluation. Tests
are performed by registered medical technologists in the Laboratory, which
is accredited by the College of American Pathologists. X-rays and other studies
are available in the fully accredited Imaging Department including, CT scan,
Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound. The hospital participates
in most major managed care plans.
Nutrition Staff
The hospital maintains a staff of full-time registered dietitians to meet your
dietary needs during your stay. If you have questions about your meals
or a special diet, speak with the dietitian or your nurse.
Volunteers
Volunteers and members of St. John’s Mercy Auxiliary contribute many
hours of service and financial support to the hospital. The badges they wear
identify them. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or Auxilian, call
636-239-8044.
Care Coordinators
Care coordinators are available to help you and your family deal with financial,
social and emotional problems that relate to your illness or hospitalization.
They can work with you and your family in dealing with the impact of illness
or injury by providing counseling information, community resources or preparation
for your return home. Care coordinators will work with your insurance company,
your physician and other members of the health care team to ensure an appropriate
level of care and length of stay. The care coordinators can assist you
in obtaining medical disability forms and applying for Medicaid, and act
as a resource on other government programs. If you or your family would
like to talk with a care coordinator, ask your nurse to contact them.
