Your Visitors
Visitors may obtain your room number and information regarding your general
condition from the Information Desk. Visitors are welcome during established
visiting hours. Brochures outlining the hours and other regulations are available
at the Information Desk in the main lobby and are posted on each floor. We
are committed to maintaining a healing environment. With this in mind, please
keep noise levels to a minimum, respect the needs of other patients in the
room, and use our chapel or courtyard for private space. If you have questions,
check with the nursing staff on the floor.
Guidelines
To support quality care for patients, visitors are asked to observe a few guidelines:
- Effective September 1, 2006, St. John's Mercy is tobacco-free both inside
and out. Visitors may not smoke anywhere on the Medical Center grounds.
- Visitors must dress appropriately and must wear a shirt and shoes.
- The number of visitors in a patient's room is restricted by the location
of the room. Please check with the nurse and observe the limit.
- Visitors with colds, flu, sore throats or any contagious disease should
not visit patients.
- Visits should be kept
short. To protect each patient's privacy, visitors and family members are not
allowed to stay overnight in semi-private rooms.
- Visitors should maintain a quiet environment and avoid unnecessary noise.
- Visitors may be asked
to leave the room during tests or treatment, or when the physician or nurse
needs to see the patient. To protect each patient's privacy, visitors may
be asked to leave a semi-private room when either patient requires care.
- When appropriate, special visiting arrangements may be made for family
members. Please check with the nursing staff.
- Visitors should not bring food or beverages to you unless approved by your
doctor or nurse.
Waiting Areas
Lounges for visitors have been set aside on each patient floor and in the first
floor lobby. Specific waiting areas also have been made available to families
of patients in the Critical Care Units, Heart Hospital, Surgery Center, Labor
and Delivery, and the Emergency department. Volunteer hostesses are usually
available to assist your visitors in the Emergency department, Heart Hospital,
Surgery Center and Critical Care Units.

Medical Center and across from the main entrance 24 hours a day, seven days
