Rapid Access Service

St. John’s Mercy Heart and Vascular Hospital was the first in the region to offer Rapid Access Service. More than 1500 patients annually are transferred through our Rapid Access Service team.

Referring hospitals and physicians place one phone call to the cardiovascular nurses who staff our Rapid Access Service line. The nurses triage the call and involve the correct heart or vascular team from within St. John’s Mercy Heart and Vascular Hospital. With the Rapid Access Service, it takes just one call to our team for immediate patient transfers and direct admits.

If the accepting physician is a heart or vascular doctor, the Rapid Access Service nurses contact the appropriate specialist, relay the pertinent patient information and have the specialist contact the referring physician within 10 minutes. If the accepting physician is a hospitalist, the Rapid Access Service nurses triage the patient and put the referring facility in touch with the St. John’s Mercy hospitalist physician for the physician to physician connection.

The St. John’s Mercy Rapid Access Service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
