Neuropsychology Services
Neuropsychology provides comprehensive assessment of adult and
adolescent patients with known or suspected neurological conditions that affect
cognitive and/or emotional functioning. The examination includes standardized
evaluation of cognitive skills, including attention, memory, intelligence, language,
sensory-perceptual skills, and reasoning capacity. Personality and emotional
functioning are also frequently assessed.
Neuropsychological assessment is often used to assist physicians
with differential diagnosis. In addition, the evaluation can help determine
the extent of cognitive impairment associated with a neurological condition,
monitor the course of disease progression, assess the degree of recovery from
brain injury, and evaluate the cognitive effects of various interventions (e.g.,
surgery or medication). The assessment can provide valuable information for
rehabilitation management, including issues related to treatment, return to
work/school, and return to independent living.
Our service provides evaluation and treatment recommendations
for various conditions that can affect brain-behavior functioning, such as:
- Traumatic brain injury
- Stroke
- Alzheimer's disease or other suspected causes of dementia
- Multiple sclerosis
- Brain tumors
- Epilepsy
- Psychiatric conditions
- Other neurological and medical conditions (e.g., cardiac complications,
anoxia, toxic exposure) with potential neurocognitive effects
