St. John's Mercy Graduate Medical Education
St. John’s Mercy is committed to the post-graduate training of physicians in specialty areas. About 100 physicians who comprise the resident staff advance their specialty training at St. John's Mercy and become an indispensable part of the Medical Center's resources and professional and social culture. Many former house officers eventually become members of the attending medical staff. Patients also benefit from this expertise, the 24-hour physician staffing and the application of advanced technology.

St. John's Mercy sponsors six fully-accredited specialty residency training programs:

Critical Care Medicine
Dental Medicine
Family Medicine

Internal Medicine
OB/GYN
Transitional Year

In addition, St. John's Mercy participates in eight St. Louis University-sponsored residencies:

ENT
Urology
Surgery
Orthopedic Surgery

Pulmonary Medicine
Adult/Child Psychiatry
Vascular Surgery
Plastic Surgery

St. John's Mercy Medical Center serves as the community hospital for a varied case mix and offers modern technology and units staffed for subspecialty care. The Medical Center also provides college-affiliated clinical experience for allied-health professionals, including seven schools of nursing, medical (laboratory) technology, nuclear medicine technology, paramedics, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy and dietetics.

Sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy Health System, St. John's Mercy Medical Center is one of the nation's largest Catholic Hospitals, the second-largest private hospital in metropolitan St. Louis, and one of 440 teaching hospitals belonging to the Council of Teaching Hospitals (COTH) of the Association of American Medical Colleges.
