Greetings from Dr. Chirino

Welcome to the St. John’s Mercy Medical Center’s OB/Gyn website.

St. John’s has a vital and energetic program, which will give you the skills you need to become proficient and confident in the clinical practice of obstetrics and gynecology.

Our Faculty consists of talented leaders in the fields of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Pelvic and Reconstructive Surgery, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Genetics, as well as generalists in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition, we have over one hundred private staff physicians, many of whom trained at St. John’s Mercy, who are committed to participate fully in the training of residents.

I look forward to meeting you in the interview process, and I encourage you to consider an elective rotation at St. John’s Mercy during your senior year, so that you might get an up close and personal look at our fantastic training program.

You have made a wise decision for your future! Hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,
Octavio R. Chirino, M.D.
Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
St. John’s Mercy Medical Center

Greetings from Dr. Veronikis

I am very pleased you have inquired about our training program at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center. The OB/GYN Residency at St. John’s prides itself on offering a comprehensive academic and surgical program in a community setting. In addition to having a broad-based general OB/GYN faculty, all the subspecialties are represented on site, located in the west corridor of St. Louis.

The large surgical and obstetrical volume at St. John’s provides a solid curriculum for the resident doctors. This is balanced with a protected academic time for lectures and conferences. Additionally, student doctors from sister institutions rotate through our services to augment their educational experiences. This provides an opportunity for teaching, as well as cultivating interest in student doctors with regard to the field of women’s care.

In today’s rapidly changing field of medicine, the residency program remains flexible in providing a continually changing curriculum, as well as the core disciplines. We are delighted that you have expressed interest in our program and would strongly encourage you to consider doing a 4th year rotation as an elective.

I look forward to having the opportunity to meet with you and discuss in detail our residency training program. Please accept my congratulations on pursuing a career in women’s health. I’m certain that you will find it constantly stimulating, as well as professionally gratifying as you move through your professional career.

Sincerely,
Dionysios Veronikis, M.D.
